Topic

This term, our topic is 'The Savage Stone Age'. It will be a history focus and we will be learning about what life was like in prehistoric times. As part of our topic, we will be going to Stonehenge and taking part in expert-led workshops.

Literacy

This term we will be looking at persuasive texts and the children will have the opportunity to plan and write a piece of text persuading a stone age family to buy a new cave dwelling. They will also develop descriptive writing skills through writing stories set in the stone age.

Our class reader will be Maroo of the Winter Caves by Ann Turnbull

Reading

We expect children to read to an adult at least 4 times a week. Please sign the diary to acknowledge that they have read and write a comment about what they noticed or enjoyed. We love to read about any additional reading they have undertaken.

Maths

The children will be grouped differently for maths. Year 4 will be taught by Mrs Upton and Year 3 will be split between Mrs Savva and Miss Hurley. The Year 3 groupings are flexible and may be changed during the course of the year. There will be a new focus every week and the children will be set maths homework every Friday.
Homework

Every Friday, the children will receive maths  homework which is due in on the following Wednesday.  The first set of words for spelling for this term will be given out on Friday 11th January and will be due in on the following Friday.

If your child has difficulty completing their homework at home, we offer an after school homework club on Monday and a lunchtime homework club on Tuesdays. There is no need to sign up, just turn up if your need to complete it.

Homework that is not handed in on time will result in the children having to complete it at homework catch-up with Miss Thomas on a Wednesday lunchtime.
PE

PE will be on Thursdays. Please can you ensure that your child has the correct PE kit. Plain white t-shirt or house t-shirt, navy blue or black shorts and trainers. When the weather is cold, plain dark tracksuit bottoms and a hoody. PLEASE NAME ALL CLOTHING.

Woodland Learning

Woodland learning will be on Thursdays. Please can you ensure that your child has the correct kit. Long trousers, long sleeved top and wellington boots or sturdy shoes. A waterproof jacket will be needed when the weather is wet. If you have waterproof trousers these are ideal as they can be worn over PE kit, making changing easier and less to bring into school!
General

If you need to see your child's teacher, please arrange to see them after school or arrange a meeting with them via email. Before school is usually very busy and we want to ensure that we have sufficent time to discuss any concerns.
